Dental Tips for Your Summer Vacation

Summer is here and we’re trading the normal routine for a more relaxed, fun in the sun attitude! Many of us are planning our summer vacations and looking forward to some well-deserved time away. Whether you prefer backpacking in Europe or planting yourself on a beach for one week straight, the one thing that shouldn’t’ change is your dental routine.

Here are some dental tips to keep your mouth as happy as you are while on vacation:

Brush & Floss

Just because you’re taking a break from work, school and everything else, it does not mean you should be taking a break from brushing and flossing. It’s all too easy to skip a step because you just don’t feel like doing it. Chances are, you are consuming more processed foods with high sugar contents, which makes your normal routine that more important. Be sure to brush and floss to get rid of the sugar residue on your teeth. You’ll be thankful you did when you get back from vacation!

Tooth Brush Care

It’s also important to keep your toothbrush out of damp environments. When you store your toothbrush with a toothbrush cover, it can prevent it from fully drying. This creates the perfect environment for bacterial growth on the bristles of your toothbrush. The toothbrush you’re using to clean your teeth & gums could in fact be exposing your mouth to bacteria. Keep those toothbrushes free of bacteria by letting them dry fully between washes.

Drink Water

Water is essential for total body health, including oral health. By drinking water throughout the day, especially when snacking, it helps to dilute sugar and acid on your teeth. It’s not as effective as brushing and flossing but provides some protection throughout your day.
